Around the year 1250 AD the Vatican began to suspect where the Cathars were hiding the Holy Grail.Luckily the Cathars received a timely warning from a spy within the Vatican, who told them the hiding place of the Grail had been disclosed. The Cathars therefore decided to find a new hiding place for their precious relics and for this purpose founded an Order, the Libaudean Order, named after the area where it was to be established.

This secret brotherhood was given instructions to build a temporary accommodation for the Holy Grail, and, of course, to protect it from harm. Thus the Grail was hidden and guarded by the Libaudean Order for many, many years. Rumour has it that the Abbott, brother Solagus experimented with the magical powers of the Grail, the power to give life everlasting. He filled the Grail with spring water and let his dog, Picorianus, drink from it.

Brother Solagus devised a trial of competence for those who wanted to join the Order by means of a Quest. Those who wanted to be ordained first had to demonstrate they were suited for the position by proving they possessed enough perseverance, courage, wisdom and ingenuity to protect the secret of the Grail at all times, whatever the circumstances. Only those who completed the very difficult Quest were ordained into the brotherhood.

In the year 1312 AD the construction of the final hiding place was completed and the Grail was transferred there. Hence the Libaudean Order lost its purpose, so all members were murdered by the Cathars and all traces of its existence carefully erased. All the buildings, all the documents and even the secret hiding place were completely destroyed. Only the little dog, Picorianus, managed to escape the massacre.

However, rumour has it that Brother Solagus’s Quest is still in existence – and that those who manage to complete it, will find the elixir of eternal life. All that remains of the Libaudean Order is a poem, that is supposed to reveal where the Quest begins.

I looking out on the stream,
Catching the sunset's radiant beam,
Canonized, pregnant, yet virgin still,
At my feet you will find, I swear,
The path to life everlasting, if you dare!
